What do you do when you want to mix up the morning cereal routine? Make your own oatmeal packets! So easy to do, and a great way to rotate some of your food storage items, oatmeal packets are hearty, healthy, and incredibly inexpensive.
Here's the recipe:Homemade Oatmeal Packets:
1/4 cup rolled oats
1/4 cup ground rolled oats (in the blender)
1 1/2 Tbsp. powdered milk
1 Tbsp. brown sugar
pinch of salt
dried fruit or nuts (optional)
Place all ingredients in a snack size bag and store until ready to eat.
To cook the oatmeal, place contents of the bag in 1 cup milk or water, and cook on the stovetop or in the microwave until softened, about 2 minutes on the stove top or 1 minute in the microwave.
Try making a bunch of these little baggies and storing them in your pantry. They're a staple in my home, and make a great after school snack.
